Your Fall Season Guilty Pleasure Guide
Take out your chunky sweaters and turn on your central heating because the best season of the year is officially here! Lucky you, I'm here to give you the best of the best for fall.

🍂 Happy Autumnal Equinox 🍂
Fall seems like the season that’s ripe for guilty pleasures. Think about it. Ragging on pumpkin spice whatever, this outfit, bad horror movies, Halloween...But like this newsletter mandates, guilty pleasure means it's a pleasure for a reason. Fall is a fun season. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Here are my favourite guilty pleasures for fall, from movies to TV shows to food:
GILMORE GIRLS
Listen, what did Miss Sherman Palladino inject into this show that portrayed fall so perfectly? The small town vibes, the ever-present coffee cups, the decadent autumnal palette trees…*chefs kiss* If only we didn’t have to suffer through Rory Gilmore’s poor little rich girl whining. It’s okay though, we all know we’re here for her eye candy anyway. *this is a Team Jess household*
Someone on Reddit was kind enough to compile a list of the most ~fall~ episodes of GG and thank God for that.

OVER THE GARDEN WALL
This charming animated miniseries featuring an adorable brother pair making their way through a magical and mysterious forest to find their way home. It features pumpkins, monsters and just that cozy, wholesome feeling you want in a fall show. Apparently it’s streaming on HBO Max, so sucks for us Canadians, but hurray for you Americans!

SALTED CARAMEL MOCHAS
I’m not huge on pumpkin spice, but I am a BIG OLE FREAK for salted caramel mochas at Starbucks. They also serve oat milk now, so you have no reason to feel guilty!
NIGHT IN THE WOODS
Small town, creepy vibes are best served in the fall. I love this video game, which is available on Steam, PS4, Xbox and Switch (I personally played it on the Switch). It’s a story-driven exploration game where you unfold a mystery surrounding your hometown after you drop out of college. It may look cute, but quickly becomes a scary tale. Also you play as a cat! It’s a zoomorphic world! What a treat!

NORA EPHRON MOVIES
‘You’ve Got Mail’ and ‘When Harry Met Sally’ have that je-ne-sais-quoi when depicting NYC in its prettiest season. Bonus: Meg Ryan’s fall outfits were a CULTURAL RESET. Queen of oversized turtlenecks!

BUZZFEED UNSOLVED
I’m not a big “spooky season” person. Honestly, I hate Halloween. I hate buying overpriced costumes and I hate having to make my own since I don’t want to pay $60 at Spirit Halloween. I do, however, enjoy Buzzfeed Unsolved and the way they healthily balance humour and horror in their series.
Some of my favourites:
True Crime: The Strange Disappearance of DB Cooper
True Crime: The Mysterious Disappearance of the Sodder Children
Supernatural: The Demonic Goatman Bridge
Supernatural: The Haunted Halls of Waverly Hills Hospital

PIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Summer pies are amazing, but fall is just the best season to enjoy it. Just go to your favourite farmers market (wear your damn mask), pick up seasonal produce like apples, pumpkins, etc and get your hands working on some pie crust. It’ll take some time, but nothing beats something homemade! Plus, what a flex to say you can bake your own pie.
GUILTY PLEASURE RATING: 2 out of 5
People say fall is an overrated season and those people are wrong and hate happiness. For my fellow Canadians (or really anyone in Northeast America), I hope you enjoy these 4-6 weeks before we descend into winter wonderland. Or as I like to call it, primetime for Seasonal Affective Disorder.
With apple cider in hand,
Robyn
P.S: I am heading into a busy time in my life soon, and not just because it’s Libra season. I will be pretty MIA on social media, save for any promotion for my writing pieces. If you don’t hear from me, I promise I am alive and attempting to thrive. The next issue of SOMETHING SWEET will not be out till mid-October, but trust me, it’ll be one to wait for. Maybe even...one to give a rose to?
patiently waits until mid Oct
